Sit Back. I’ll Take You Somewhere Beautiful.

You don’t need to worry about driving on the left. You don’t need to track petrol stations or navigate country roads in the dark. You don’t need to divide your attention between the road and the view.

That’s my job.

I’m Vera Delaney — an Irish woman from Wexford, founder of Delaney Tours Ireland. When you travel with me as your private driver and guide, everything is taken care of. All you have to do is look out the window.

What Makes This Different

This Is Not a Coach Tour

No minibus. No microphone. No script. No group of forty strangers and a fixed schedule that was decided before you ever landed.

It’s you (and whoever you’re travelling with), a private vehicle, and a driver-guide who grew up here and knows Ireland’s back roads, hidden places, and the stories that bring them to life.

When I’m driving, I can point to the ruin on the hillside and tell you exactly what happened there. I can slow down for the view that isn’t signposted. I can take you the way the locals go. You’re not a passenger. You’re a guest.

We laughed the whole way. It didn’t feel like a tour at all — it felt like spending the day with a friend who happened to know everything about the most beautiful country in the world.

Popular Routes

These are starting points, not fixed programmes. Everything is adjusted around you.

The Wild Atlantic Way

Ireland’s western coastline from Donegal to Kerry. Done privately, without the coach parks, it’s something else entirely. I know the roads that go behind the postcards.

The Ancient East

Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Wicklow. Viking towns, Norman castles, monastic ruins. History layered so thick you can’t drive a mile without stepping into a different century.

Cork & Kerry

Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Kinsale. Beautiful and popular — but there’s a version beyond the tourist trail. I’ll take you there.

The North

Giant’s Causeway, the Antrim Coast, the Glens. Belfast for those who want to understand its history properly. Ireland in full.

Heritage & Roots

Built around your family history. Your county, your townland, your surname. We’ll find the places and stories that belong to you.

Who This Is For

Who a Private Driver Tour Is Perfect For

First-Time Visitors

Do Ireland properly the first time. A private driver takes the logistics off your plate and ensures you see the Ireland you came to find.

Couples

Private, unhurried, completely personal. No strangers, no compromise.

Families

We go at your pace, stop when someone needs to stop, and build the day around what the whole family will actually enjoy.

Older Travellers

Comfort, flexibility, and someone who handles every detail. No queues, no tight schedules. This is how Ireland should be experienced when you’ve earned the right to take your time.

Returning Visitors

You’ve seen the main things. Now you want the Ireland underneath — the back roads, the real conversations, the places without car parks. That’s exactly where I take people.

Vera took us places no guidebook would ever find. I will be back.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to plan the itinerary myself?
Not at all. Tell me your interests, how long you have, and what you’re hoping to feel by the end — and I’ll build it for you. You can be as involved or as hands-off as you like.
Q: How many people can travel in the vehicle?
I comfortably accommodate solo travellers, couples, and small groups. Get in touch and I’ll let you know exactly what suits your group size.
Q: Can I combine a private driver tour with an ancestry search?
Absolutely — this is one of the most popular combinations. We build the heritage research into the tour as its centrepiece. See the Irish Ancestry & Heritage page for more.
Q: Can you arrange accommodation along the way?
I can recommend accommodation that fits the areas we’re visiting and the standard you’re looking for. I won’t book on your behalf, but I’ll point you in the right direction.
Q: Do you cover the whole of Ireland?
Yes — I cover the Republic and Northern Ireland. Multi-day tours can move freely between counties and across the border.
