Account and Data Deletion Policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026

This page explains how to delete your Your Irish Companion account and the data associated with it. It applies to the app on both iOS and Android.

This page exists as a permanent web resource so you can request deletion without needing to reinstall the app.

Option 1 — Delete it yourself in the app

  1. Open Your Irish Companion
  2. Tap the Info tab
  3. Tap Delete my data
  4. Confirm when prompted

Your account and its content are removed. This cannot be undone.

Option 2 — Request deletion by email

If you no longer have the app installed, or you’d rather we did it for you:

Email: delaneytours@gmail.com
Subject line: Account deletion request
Include: the email address you used to sign in to the app

You can also phone us on +353 87 948 4944.

We may ask you one or two questions to confirm you are the account holder before we delete anything — this protects you from someone else deleting your trip.

We will confirm in writing once it is done.

How long it takes

Method Timeframe
In-app deletion Immediate
Email or phone request Within 30 days, usually within 7 days
Removal from encrypted backups Within 90 days

We will always confirm completion by email.

What is deleted

  • Your app account and sign-in credentials
  • Your name, email address and phone number as held in the app
  • Your itinerary and all trip content
  • Any photographs, videos or content you uploaded
  • Messages you sent us through the app
  • Any testimonial you submitted through the app
  • Your access to the trip

What we keep, and why

We cannot delete everything, and the law requires some of it. Deleting your app account does not delete:

1. Financial and tax records. Invoices, receipts and payment records are held separately by our payment provider (Square) and in our accounts. Irish tax law requires us to keep these for 6 years. These are not stored in the app.

2. Booking correspondence. Emails and messages exchanged outside the app are kept in line with the retention periods in our Privacy Policy, so we can deal with any dispute, insurance matter or legal claim.

3. Anything you asked us to publish. If you gave consent for a testimonial or photograph to be used on our website or social media, tell us in your deletion request and we will remove it — that is handled separately from the app.

4. Anonymised data. Data that no longer identifies you (for example, aggregate crash statistics) may be retained.

If you want your data deleted from those records too, email us and we will consider it against our legal obligations under GDPR. Where we must keep something, we will tell you what and why.

Deleting your account is not the same as cancelling your tour

Removing the app does not cancel a booking. If you want to cancel a tour, that is a separate request — please see our Terms and Conditions.

If you delete your account while a trip is still running, you will lose access to your itinerary, emergency contacts and daily notes. We can send them to you by email instead — just ask.

Your wider rights

Under GDPR you also have the right to access, correct, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal data. See our Privacy Policy.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request, you may complain to the Data Protection Commission, 21 Fitzwilliam Square South, Dublin 2, D02 RD28 — www.dataprotection.ie.
